We have developed a superscalar RISC processor for the super technical
server HITACHI SR8000. The processor includes architectural features
specialized in scientific applications, in which massive amounts of data in
the main memory must be processed. These features are a
slide-windowed-registers scheme and a simultaneous execution of up to 16
prefetch instructions. The slide-windowed-registers scheme enables
instructions of the processor to access any of 160 floating point registers
(FPRs). The execution mechanism for prefetch instructions produces high
efficiency of the out-of-order super-scalar processor despite the long
latency of the main memory. A logic simulation showed that the performance
of the processor reaches over 3 floating-point operations per cycle and the
memory throughput of over 12 bytes per cycle.

Large register set: The IA-64 architecture provides for a very large number
of registers. There are 128 integer registers, 128 floating-point registers,
64 predicate registers (more about them later), eight branch registers, and
a 128-register "application store" where machine state is controlled. The
large number of registers means that a number of intermediate results can be
held without reading from or writing to memory, which speeds complex
computations immensely. The data in the integer registers is managed by the
Register Stack Engine so that these registers become part of a very large
stack - this speeds function calls and parameter referencing. The large
register set also allows for efficient loop parallelization.


Ennek 256 regisztere biztos van ezekszerint. De a hitachinak se hinnem hogy
