  Protel 99 SE, scheduled for release in early December, is a significant
  update to Protel's revolutionary Protel 99 board-level design system that
  delivers to the electronic designer's desktop all the advanced features
  needed to meet the requirements of today's complex PCB design -
multi-sheet,
  hierarchical schematic entry, mixed-mode simulation, PLD design,
  rules-driven board layout, shape-based autorouting, signal integrity
  simulation, integrated document management and design team collaboration.
  SE significantly extends the power of Protel 99 with a host of powerful
new
  PCB productivity features and enhancements.

  Protel 99 SE also integrates Protel 99 Service Pack 2 which includes a
number
  of system-level fixes and enhancements.

  * Faster, sleeker Design Explorer now supports multiple data storage
    formats (Windows File System PLUS Access Database storage).
  * More layers (including 32 signal, 16 plane, 16 mech.) with
fully-definable
    layer stackup and drill pairs.
  * A host of PCB workspace enhancements from enhanced status bar
information
    and adaptive autopanning to via-level control and paste mask settings.
  * 7 new design rules, 5 new rule scopes, the ability to import and export
    design rule sets and comprehensive design rule reporting features.
  * New PCB placement tools including component grouping, dynamic
reconnection
    and connection length analysis, definable placement grids, easy "room"
    definition, and full on-line and batch DRC support for component
    clearance rules.

  * A host of new and enhanced PCB Selection Modes - select objects directly
    from the PCB Browse Panel, create classes based on a selection, step
through
    objects in the current selection or use the new Query Manager to create,
    save and run complex selection queries.
  * PCB Autorouter enhancements include tighter integration with board
design,
    automatic locking of pre-routes, observation of net-level and net
class-level
    design rules, improved cleanup routines and the ability to define
    layer-specific keepouts and an integrated SPECCTRA® interface
  * Advanced annotation features with positional and sheet by sheet
annotation,
    direct on-sheet text editing, numeric suffixes for multipart components
and
    the ability to automatically generate PCB component classes based on
schematic
    sheets
  * Protel 99 SE's mixed-mode simulator now includes full support for
mathematical
    post-processing of simulation output waveforms and the ability to
display
    two different waveforms simultaneously.
